Modernformations Gallery and Performance Space (4919 Penn) …6 to 9pm.. “AMALGAMATIONS: Paintings by Brad Heiple and Sophia McGuire”. Sophia McGuire and Brad Heiple harbor a mutual desire to create works that literally ebb and flow by way of the very nature of the mediums in which they delve. Hues of ink, acrylic, and other liquids mingle and coagulate into a cocktail of colorful fluids, through a kind of guided randomness, upon various surfaces. This exhibition aims to express the interests Brad and Sophia share through paintings of their own and select collaborative works. Work will be on display until March 14th. 412-362-0274. modernformations.com

Artisan (5001 Penn) … 7-10pm …
Jason Sauer and Jason Angst Team um to bring you new paintings for the show “American Made”. Two accomplished artists, two Penn Ave gallery owners, two Jasons, two very different styles. Deliciousness from food artist Jon Beck as well as a tasting from Red Star Kombucha.
American Identity is built on the back of industry. Metal, machines, sweat, dreams, hard work, Jason Sauer examines these topics through a series of Direct to Metal paintings of the agricultural industry of 1930’s North Carolina. Sauer attempts to capture the history and emotion of the American dream through a visual tribute to specific locations he has visited.
Jason Angst grew up in a small mill town just outside of Pittsburgh. Growing up in the rust belt his take on this subject has a darker, death of industry overtone. Industrial landscapes, the fall of the steel industry, and nature taking over.
Jason Sauer is a “Pittsburgh 40 Under 40″ winner, gallery owner, and demolition derby champion who has a master’s degree in fine art. Jason Angst is a “city paper best of” winner, gallery/tattoo shop owner, has won awards here and abroad for his tattoos and oil painting and is a member of the sullen art collective

It’s about the organic and the unrefined that sits underneath the polished skin covering, and the juxtaposition of the inner versus the outer when the former emerges. Music performances by The Van Allen Belt and Chet Vincent.
