Though he’s revered among Chicago DJs and around the world as the original master of ghetto dance music, and a bastion of Ghetto House. DJ Deeon started small, on Chicago’s south side. He sold his DJ mixtapes in the parking lot where he lived, and played house parties across Chicago’s south and west suburbs. These crowded living room parties started the feeling and inspiration for the sound Deeon produced, music he simply refers to as, “for the strippers, for the street”. He produced and played parties with Ghetto House lynchpin DJ Milton and in 1994, formed a working relationship with Ray Barney, the boss of the legendary and recently revived Ghetto Trax label Dance Mania. Deeon’s 12″s on Dance Mania, his first productions, quickly became anthems for a whole generation, inspiring many producers around the globe.

From the seminal “Let Me Bang” to “Work This Mother Fucker” to club essentials “The Freaks”, “Accelerate”, “Who You Wit’” to the erotic hits “Like It Raw” or “Da Dick Suck” he has proven himself to be a key figure in House musics evolution, at ease behind the mic as behind the machines or behind the decks. DJ Deeon quickly established himself with a prolific and stylistically diverse catalogue of releases on Dance Mania, but as his music found increasing exposure outside of Chicago, and outside of the United States, his music came to be released on a wider range of labels.

DJ Deeon’s trax transcend many of his contemporaries and have stood the test of time being sampled, remixed countlessly and have found their way to the decks in clubs around the world. Whether you know it or not – you have certainly heard Deeon’s music in some form. One of the most prominent and prolific producers of Chicago Ghetto House music, you don’t want to miss Debo’s NYC debut!
