Manchester (UK) based promoters Fat Out Til You Pass Out are testing themselves as promoters and putting on a show on the other side of the Atlantic. With an influx of Manchester based artists doing residencies at Flux Factory and one half of the Fat Out promotion doing an internship at Temporary Residence record label, this October it seemed like the opportune time to undergo this challenge.
Fat out is a live music promotion based in Manchester, UK, and for the past five years has been running DIY shows for bands such as Swans, Russian Circles, Bosnian Rainbows, Wolves in the Throne Room and Boris. In August 2011 they took on the challenge of creating a festival under the incredible roof of the creative hub that is the Islington Mill. The festival, now in it’s third year, seeks out experimental and adventurous music but retains strong ethics in supporting the DIY music scene as well as bringing performances by names such as Jarboe and Lydia Lunch.
The Fat Out show at Silent Barn on Tuesday October 29th, is a night of one off performances. By teaming up New York based musicians with English visual/performance artists their aim is to curate a night of transatlantic collaboration resulting in an exciting and special series of performances.
GUARDIAN ALIEN Vs POSITIVELY DESTRUCTIVE
Guardian Alien (Thrill Jockey) will be collaborating with Positively Destructive, a collective who look for ways to alter the audience’s perception of how they experience a live show. Psychedelic visuals and interactive installations combined with the psychic meditation of Guardian Alien’s music this performance will end the night with a very psychedelic trip.
YOSHIKO OHARA Vs VIDEO JAM
Bloody Panda’s Yoshiko Ohara will be undergoing the challenge of a VideoJam. VideoJam are a collective based in Manchester who team up film makers and musicians and then get the musicians to score the films live. Yoshiko will be scoring a film by NYE Best called Shatterlands. Yoshiko will be following her VideoJam with her own material.
ALA MUERTE Vs KHOM
Ala Muerte creates oscillating drone that becomes more profound and intoxicating with each loop, featuring angelic vocals and treated guitars and when joined by the visual mastermind that is James Robinson (KHOM) you will leave this performance being completely absorbed and entranced.
DREAMBOAT CRUSADERZ Vs THE VOLKOV COMMANDERS
Pairing up Dreamboat Crusaderz and The Volkov Commanders is going to create a performance beyond any earthling’s comprehension. The elaborate, heavily layered soundscapes of Dreamboat Crusaderz mixed with the alien ideas of the Volkov commanders, this performance will explore galaxies of the unknown.
Plus an exhibition by two incredible artists who have dedicated so much of their time to Fat Out over the years producing the incredible poster artwork for all our shows and festivals.
